A Strong Start
Starting School:
A Big Milestone for Your Child and Family
Starting school is an exciting and important milestone for your child and your family. As your child moves into a more formal learning environment, we understand that this transition can be both challenging and exciting. Our school is here to support you and your child every step of the way.
You play a vital role in preparing your child for school and helping our school get ready to welcome them. To support you through this transition, we encourage you to:
- Talk with your child about starting school and what to expect
- Help them understand the changes and feel confident
- Encourage them to express and explore their feelings
- Support them in making new friends and building positive relationships
- Empower them to develop independence and readiness for their big school journey
Together, we can make the start of school a positive and rewarding adventure for your child.

Winmalee Public School Orientation Program: Preparing Your Child for a Smooth Start to School
At Winmalee Public School, we offer a proven and successful Orientation Program designed to help both you and your child become familiar and comfortable with our school before starting Kindergarten.
When: Throughout October and November, over 4 Tuesdays
Who: You and your child are warmly invited to join us
What to Expect:
- Week 1: Treasure Hunt Your child will explore the school grounds with a buddy while completing a fun Treasure Hunt. This helps them get to know their new environment in an exciting and interactive way.
- Weeks 2 to 4: Classroom Activities Your child will participate in engaging activities, storytime, and crafts in our Kindergarten classrooms. Our teachers use this time to help your child enjoy their first classroom experience while observing their skills, such as social interactions, fine motor skills, and attention to tasks.
Parent Orientation: While your child is engaged in activities, you will have the opportunity to tour the school, visit our Kindergarten classrooms, and see firsthand where your child will be learning and playing.
Supporting Your Transition: In the following weeks, we also provide practical information and support to help you prepare for school start, including:
- Establishing daily routines
- Crafting healthy lunch boxes
- Encouraging a love of reading
- Communicating with our school community
- Understanding and managing separation anxiety
- Accessing support through our Winmalee HUB
- Strategies to help your child transition happily and confidently to school
